27/11/18 - Beacon of Light Tournament

posted Nov 27, 2018, 11:15 AM by Moorbridge PRU   [ updated Nov 27, 2018, 11:16 AM ]

Moorbridge Sports Academy attended the U16 Beacon of Light Football Tournament at the Beacon of Light, a tournament that involved some fantastic teams from around the North East. We entered one team into the U16's category with a mix of boys and girls with the majority still in KS3.

There were 10 teams in the U16 category which halved into two groups, which over 100+ pupils participated on the day. We had arrived at the venue a little before 9.30am to look around the facility. On the fourth floor of the building there was a top quality 4G area where we would be playing our games. An excellent opportunity for all our of pupils involved to play on such a fantastic surface.

All of our 8 players were fantastic throughout, this showed as we were often the underdogs going into games with teams that had much bigger, stronger and older players than us. The determination, encouragement and fantastic team play on show brought some feedback from other teams commending our players on how they were playing the game on such a small sided pitch.

During the semi final against the Beacon of Light, we conceded an early goal however the determination and energy shown to get back into the game was excellent to see. Our players worked extremely hard in order to get into the final, where we played against a Hartlepool team who were well drilled and played a fantastic style of football. It was an exciting end to end game of football which could have seen either team take away the trophy however on this occasion it wasn't Moorbridge.

Moorbridge Sports Academy attended the North East regional Dallaglio RugbyWorks Tournament. Our KS4 pupils had a fantastic opportunity to play on the Newcastle Falcons home pitch.

We arrived however due to unforeseen circumstances there was only 2 other teams that would be participating on the day. The day started with a welcome to both schools who were in attendance as well as an introduction to the Newcastle Falcons stadium and the Falcons players who were there to support.

Having not played a competitive rugby game in over 6 months our Sports Academy students were absolutely fantastic. The leadership, commitment, encouragement and overall sportsmanship on show was excellent to see. Some of the rugby our students played throughout the two games gave a fantastic overview of the hard work they have put in during the Thursday sessions. We also received excellent feedback from the Dallaglio RugbyWorks staff and the Newcastle Falcons rugby players.

Huge thank you to all at Dallaglio RugbyWorks as well as Newcastle Falcons for giving our students a fantastic opportunity to play on the first team pitch!

She scored and assisted 5 goals during the tournament and was a vital part throughout.

Chloe also got injured during the tournament and unfortunately missed out on the Girls CVL games as well as another football match against her old school John Spence. Rather than being upset due to her injury she came along as part of the Moorbridge Sports Academy and supported her fellow students as well as helping Mr Dodds with various tasks on the Wednesday and Thursday games.

25/10/18 - Bidfood Experience

posted Oct 25, 2018, 9:31 AM by Moorbridge PRU   [ updated Oct 25, 2018, 9:55 AM ]

Bidfood operates as a foodservice wholesaler supplying fresh, frozen, ambient and non-food products to customers in a wide range of sectors within the foodservice and catering industry; including local authorities, NHS trusts, defence contractors, hotel and restaurant chains as well as many independent operators in the hospitality industry.

Our students had a fantastic opportunity to see the day to day workings behind a supplier and the many different strands that need to operate together in order to make a successful business.

Firstly Bidfood introduced themselves to our students and gradually worked through a presentation in order to describe the ins and outs of the business and how it has grown over the years. They also provided fantastic refreshments which went down very well with our students and staff.

Later we split off into two groups and worked our way around the premises. We were shown various different sections of the company from telesales, stock taking, warehouse management, freezer department and inside of the delivery vans. This gave our students a quick insight into a working environment and the many different departments that work together in order to keep the operation under control.

Afterwards we arrived back into the meeting room to ask any questions that the students had, as well as a first hand experience from one of the staff who worked his way through the apprenticeship program at Bidfood. He also gave advice to our students who will be looking for employment in the future.

We would like to say a massive thank you to Bidfood for their excellent hosting, deliverance, co-operation as well as the refreshments on the day, I'm sure you will see some of our students in the future. Also a big thank you to the Dallaglio Foundation for co-ordinating the experience for our students.

24/10/18 - CrossFit Tyneside #2

Our students had their second session of the year on Wednesday at CrossFit Tyneside, Ben put on another fantastic session in which our students had to work on new movements, patterns and stage them together to create a workout. The session ended with a 12 minute intensive workout which included wind bikes, burpees and bar lifts (knee ups). All 6 of the students that took part definitely enjoyed themselves as well as ending the session fatigued.

We will definitely have some sore legs in the morning, another massive thank you to Ben and all involved at CrossFit for allowing us to use the gym.

The CrossFit regime takes place every two weeks, the next available opportunity will be on Wednesday 7th November. If you would like come along please see Mr Dodds or Mr Railton in advance.

18/10/18 - v John Spence

posted Oct 21, 2018, 10:15 AM by Moorbridge PRU   [ updated Oct 21, 2018, 10:17 AM ]

Another fantastic afternoon in the sunshine over at John Spence, where we took a mix of our Moorbridge Sports Academy boys and girls for a 9-a-side football game. We had some debut's in the side as well as some of our girls who played the previous afternoon in the CVL.

For large parts of the game Moorbridge Sports Academy dominated possession, moving it quickly from side to side with all players getting involved. After playing out from the back Moorbridge broke forward with some great attacking football and JJ put Moorbridge ahead with a fantastic finish.

Shortly after the break John Spence came back into the game and unfortunately they received a penalty for a tackle inside the box to the amazement of some of the defenders. They despatched it into the back of the net, quickly after that they went through again and scored a great goal into the bottom corner past Harvey.

Moorbridge Sports Academy continued to try and play fast attacking football, Brandon who played out from the back with a ball down the line to Gary who beat his defender and got a cross in the box towards Tasha. She took a fantastic touch on the edge and laid it off towards Kaylee who dispatched this into the back of the goal with a fantastic left footed strike.

A couple of substitutions took place and Moorbridge pushed for the winner, Tasha who pressured for the full game was unlucky not to come away with 2 or 3 goals. However she managed to win the ball in the corner after challenging the defender and a few passes around the box later the ball managed to find her feet and she sweetly struck it into the bottom right hand corner out of the reach of the goalkeeper.

Moorbridge Sports Academy not only had their first girls football only team, but we also competed in the mainstream U16 CVL at John Spence. We played two very strong sides with girls who consistently play for teams around the North East as well as an England International.

The girls played two games on the afternoon against Whitley Bay High School and John Spence, they were both excellent games played in the right spirit with some fantastic football on show. The girls have the right to hold their heads high especially with most of the team still in KS3.

16/10/18 - U16 Wanderers Football Tournament

Moorbridge Sports Academy attended the U16 Senior Wanderers Football Tournament at Walker Activity Dome, a tournament that we finished 3rd place twice in 2017/18. We entered one team into the U16's category with a mix of boys and girls.

There were 10 teams in the U16 category as well as another 10 teams at U14 with over 160+ pupils participating on the day. We had arrived at the venue a little before 10am and the team wanted to get on the pitches and get warmed up as quick as possible. The quick movement, passing and working on shape fluidity before helped us transfer very quickly into the games.

Our 8 players were fantastic throughout and the determination, encouragement, sportsmanship as well as the constant positive vibe around the team showed. We often struggled in the past around lunch time however this wasn't the case as time they battled for each other, passed and moved the ball around the pitch Man City like, we were commended on our play style and how much various staff members from other schools enjoyed watching.
